Developmental editing includes a line-by-line review of the manuscript for the following:

- Incorrect usage (e.g., effect/affect)
- Consistency/Standardization
- Sentence clarity
- Word choice
- Redundancies and/or inaccuracies in text
- Maintenance of tone/voice

- Flow/transitions
- Evaluation of sentence structure
- Presentation
Content organization may include a check for clarity and effectiveness of content or story sequence, including support and resolution.
Flow/transitions examines the continuous progress and pace of the story.
Evaluation of sentence structure examines sentences for clarity, flow, and
readability.
Presentation reviews the visual organization and layout (placement of headers, lists, and sentence/paragraph spacing) of the manuscript.
As the highest level of editing, we recommend developmental editing for authors whose work may contain moderate to extensive problems with punctuation, grammar, point-of-view, tense, dialogue, narrative tone, and/or sentence structure and clarity. Developmental editing will also benefit those writing in English as a second language.
Rates
Our current rate for developmental editing services is
$.015 per word
(highly technical works or manuscripts requiring an extreme amount of text revision may be quoted a higher rate).
